The Help You Need to Keep Radon Away

The Radon Man and his team offer radon testing to homeowners in Wausau, WI as well as throughout Central and Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

In addition to providing radon-mitigation installations, part of our business involves raising awareness about what radon is, and the dangers of living with high levels in the home. Below you will find helpful resources to understand why contacting The Radon Man of WI, LLC is a wise choice for a safer and healthier environment.

What is Radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless cancer-causing radioactive gas that comes from the natural decay of uranium found in various types of soils, rocks, and some groundwater. Because it is a radioactive element, it can seep through concrete floors and basements infiltrating homes, schools, daycare centers, and workplaces even in the absence of cracks in the floor.

The National Academy of Sciences, the U.S. Surgeon Generals Office, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) all indicate that radon is second only to smoking as a cause of lung cancer resulting in approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the United States.

Marathon County and the surrounding areas are classified as Zone 1, which is the highest rating.*

Working With Real Estate

If you are moving or selling your home, make sure that the property has been tested for dangerous levels of radon.  The EPA recommends testing your home before listing it on the market and, if needed, mitigating the home to reduce radon levels.

If you are buying a home, ensure that the property has been tested before purchase, or request radon test results from the seller if the testing has already been conducted.

If you are moving into a rental property, check with the property manager to see if the building has been tested for radon and if so, request the test results.  Tenants can also contact The Radon Man of Wisconsin for free test kits.

As a business owner, it is important to have your business tested to protect your workforce.

Wisconsin DCF now requires regular radon testing in all licensed child care centers, as well as remediation for any radon levels above the EPA's safety limit.
